Caring for your JBO Woodcraft Cooking Utensils and Boards:
Your handcrafted JBO Woodcraft kitchen utensil, board, and/or fruit bowl is coated in a matrix of food safe finishes, like beeswax and mineral oil.
Before first use wash with warm soapy water.
Do not machine wash as it will compromise the finish and potentially ruin the wood.
Over time the finish may need to be reconditioned. I recommend getting a bottle of Howard Products butcher block conditioner and apply periodically. Plain food grade mineral oil is also an option. This can be used for both cutting/charcuturie boards and utensils.
Application of conditioner frequency is dependent on how often the item is used and washed, item may appear dried out or lacks ability to repel liquids.
It is also important to remember that wood shrinks and swells depending on environmental factors such as humidity and temperature, submerging in water or other liquids for extended periods of time may cause warping.
It is not recommended to use an epoxy-wood hybrid item for cutting, small slices into the epoxy can release particles into your food. These type of items are best for serving only. Similarly, it is also not recommended to use high temperature food items on epoxy as it can cause heat damage.
